A Recommended itinerary for foreign & Korean American tourists



Day 1 theme:  “Small volcano – Sara orum”


09:00 – 3:00  Sara orum – Seongpanak trail course of Mt.Halla National Park

    Mt.Halla (1,950m) is the tallest mountain in South Korea and has been designated as a world natural heritage by the UNESCO. When you go up in the Seongpanak trail course after 2.5 hours, you see a small, but beautiful lake. You should bring a lunch box and water.  

3:00 – 7:00   Sea water bath & sauna

There are places where you can relax your tired muscles by the long walk in the sea water bath & sauna. You can enjoy sea water bath without going to the sea! Here’s some of the places that I know in Jeju city.

7:00 -   Dinner in Jeju City (Any Seafood restaurant at Dongmun Fishery Market)

Day 2 theme:  “Aquarium & Museum”


10:00 – 12:30  Aqua Planet, Jeju (www.aquaplanet.co.kr , Tel: 064-780-0900)  


There are 3 sections in this aquarium: aquarium, marine science hall, and the performance hall. The performance hall shows synchronise swimming and eco-system presentation. Make sure to check the show time before entering the aquarium!

12:30-2:00  Lunch (Mint Fusion Restaurant at Phoenix Island Resort)

         Inside Phoenix island resort, you can take a walk along seaside
         and enjoy the "glass house."


 2:00-4:00  Relaxing time around Phoenix island resort
 This area is a cape called “Seopjicoji.” You can observe uniquely formed lava rocks (basalt). You can have a relaxing time at the small & calm Shinyang beach!


      4:00-6:30  Bonte museum

Bonte means “original shape." This unique museum was built in 2012 and exhibits varied collections.

Day 3:  “Forest therapy”

Day 1 theme:  “Olle Trekking

Olle is a dialect of Jeju that means, "a narrow pathway connected from the street to the house’s gate." Since 2007, Jeju olle has become a representative brand of trekking, healing, and slow tourism. There are total 21 courses, and each trail, on average, is 10-18 km. The olle trail offers a unique opportunity to see the beauty of coastline, which offers changing scenery.  You can have a lunch at any local restaurant on the way of trekking…. Seogwipo city area includes the routes 1-12, and Jeju city area includes 13-21.

Day 2 theme:  “Museum & Theme Park Tour

11:30-1:30  Jeju Herb Dongsan, Seogwipo city

In Korean, Dongsan means hill. Herb Dongsan is where you can see various herbs and learn about different herbs' characteristics.





2:30-4:00 Jeju Museum of Contemporary Art in Jeoji-ri, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju City (www.jejumuseum.go.kr; 710-7801)
As a public museum, this museum collectively shows contemporary artworks that consists the theme of nature and Jeju culture. The museum is located in the central part of Jeoji cultural and art village in Jeoji-ri, Hangyeong-myeon.


4:30-6:30  Jeju Museum of Art in Yeon-dong, Jeju city (www.jmoa.jeju.go.kr;  Tel: 710-4300)
Jeju museum of Art is the largest provincial art museum on Jeju island. The museum provides a variety of exhibitions with invited artists showing the trends of art circles in Korea and around the world.

Day 1 theme:  Nature”



09:00 – 12:00  Jeju Stone Culture Park (www.jejustonepark.com, Tel: 710-7731)
Stones of Jeju are black basalt with many holes. This place is the best known spot to have a collection of these rocks and others found on the island. This theme park is created with stones, soil, trees, iron and water, and designed to show the legend of Grandmother Seolmundae and the stones of the Five Hundred Generals.


12:00-1:30  Lunch  (Jeju traditional chicken of Gyoraeri)
There are many restaurants specialized in Jeju traditional chicken near Jeju Stone   Culture Park.


1:30-3:30  Manjang cave (http://english.jeju.go.kr, Tel: 783-4818)

This cave is an internationally best well-known lava tube among some caves in Jeju. It is a 7.4 km long, 18m wide, & 23m high lava tube, which is one of the sites of the island registered as world natural heritage by UNESCO.



3:30 – 4:30  Hado Beach

This place is the habitat for migratory birds in the winter season and you can see many Moonjuran, a native plant of Jeju island, in here.


    


4:30 – 6:30  Seongsan sunrise peak (http://english.jeju.go.kr, Tel: 710-7923)
This peak is one of about 360 volcanic cones called oruems, was created by hydro-volcanic eruptions 100,000 years ago. It is known as a prime spot to view the sunrise especially in January 1 of the year, and also one of the sites registered as world natural heritage by UNESCO.

Day 2 theme:  Culture”

There are 4 museums at Tapdong and Dongmun rotary areas in the oldtown of Jeju city. Old buildings have been renovated to the contemporary museums. Each museum name comes from its original building name (ex: Tapdong cinema, Tapdong bikeshop, Dongmun motel)


11:30-2:30  Seongeup Folk Village (www.seongeup.net, Tel: 787-5560)

This village has preserved and recreated a traditional town as it used to be. The thatched roofs weighed down with rocks to prevent them being blown away by the wind are particularly memorable.




3:00-6:00  Artist’s path in Seogwipo city (Tel: 760-2482)

This path starts from Lee Jung-Seop museum and passes through culture & art market, poem park, Seobok gallery, and Soam memorial hall with 5.5 km long.  An interpretation service is available with reservation.



      

6:00-7:00 Dinner at Jungmun tourist complex area
